This mouthpiece was completed after about three to four years of going back and forth with Ishimori Wind Instruments. I had been using a mouthpiece that had been refaced by a friend. It was smooth blowing and my fellow musicians loved it. The desire for my colleagues to have a similar mouthpiece was the motivation for this project. With Ishimori’s know-how we created the “Artist Toki Model” based on my mouthpiece. Ishimori made me many prototypes and it took a long time to weed out the best one. But, when you blow on this mouthpiece you will instantly feel the quality. The most important thing about a mouthpiece for me is how the air flows through it. Timbre and pitch are controlled by you (your body), so I don’t worry too much about that. For example, if you want to produce a fat sound I think you should look to improve how you play rather than search for a new instrument or mouthpiece. This being the case, what you should want from an instrument or mouthpiece is something made of a material that “resonates as efficiently as possible”. In the case of mouthpieces, you want something that can produce low notes to high notes effortlessly. If you find that, then it will be easy for you to create your own timbre and pitch as well as produce power. The “Artist Toki Model” was crafted in every minute detail based on this philosophy and Ishimori’s know-how. How the mouthpiece feels when playing depends on the tip opening, so I urge you to try the piece and find one that’s right for you!

The Ishimori Woodstone mouthpiece is a FANTASTIC mouthpiece ! Since I've been using it (hard rubber model) I've even found myself practicing more as it is so comfortable to play. There is an ease to the articulation and from the bottom to the top of the horn there is an incredible evenness in sound, which speaks to the meticulous craftsmanship of Ishimori. The sound is a well rounded, powerful, while still compact sound. From soloing to section work, this mouthpiece has great projection while also blending in the section. Many other saxophonists have asked me about this mouthpiece while on gigs and rehearsals around the world, as it has gotten 'great' reviews on the bandstand. I feel that this mouthpiece is not only is a great professional mouthpiece, but also one that would be a great mouthpiece for students as it is very easy to play, while having a world class sound.

The first time I blew on this mouthpiece I was surprised at how fat the sound was. But it wasn’t just fat, it was also brilliant, and didn’t get tinny as I climbed the altissimo register. The sound is not overbearing when you play loud either. You’d be hard-pressed to find a mouthpiece as wonderful as this. Using this mouthpiece with a ligature that resonates efficiently is the best combination ever!

With the ISHIMORI mouthpiece, the more I play it the more I realize and enjoy the endless possibilities it has to offer. Excellent! This amazing work of art, made to satisfy anyone's need and tastes. This mouthpiece is ideal for contemporary music and has sophisticated edge that will cut through in contemporary, R & B, rock and big band settings. It is very easy to play and the shape of the beak makes it very comfortable too. Thank you ISHIMORI for the years of quality products and friendship.
